I’ve stumbled upon such a nice and simple live webcam of Frankfurt am Main skyline. It updates the pic by reload once a minute or so.

This is how Frankfurt looks right now.

Sunshine and +22′C, can’t complain. This is a test with the Wordpress iPhone mobile app from my garden. Nice feature to be able to take and post pics as well.

I’ve added WPtouch skin to this blog for mobile reading. It supports automatically iPhone, iPod Touch and Android mobile devices and views this blog in a very efficient, cool and fast mobile look. I absolutely love it!

I’m also writing this with my new iPhone with the mobile WordPress app. It’s is a bit rough, could look a lot nicer but seems to do the job. Perfect, finally mobile blogging! Expect a lot more updates soon! :o)

D-LUX 4 case

There is an optional case for Leica D-LUX 4, which can be purchased separately either in black or brown. Before I pulled the trigger on the Leica, I had no idea how the case actually worked. There was hardly any pics available of the case open.

I must say I’m more than happy with the case. It’s absolutely beautiful, protects the camera well and it’s very easy to open and close. Well worth the money. Here’s a few pics of it.

Black or brown? Looking at vintage Leica’s, the case used to be always brown, so that was an easy decision.

Office Sunset

Another shot with my new Leica D-LUX 4. Beautiful sunset colours yesterday afternoon from my office window.

Here’s one more from today. Colours straight out of the camera are truly astonishing!

Leica D-LUX 4

Happy New Year 2009!

It’s time to put some pics again to this blog. It seems that I’ve been a good boy last year as Santa brought me a dream come true Christmas present - a Leica D-LUX 4. My first Leica! This might be one of the best compact size cameras out there at the moment. And it is a true Leica! I’ve always wanted to get one, so here we go.

Leica D-LUX 4

Leica D-LUX 4

I won’t be going to the technical side of this camera, there are other sites for that. Instead I’ll be posting pics more frequently. It seems I hardly ever bother to carry my DSLR with me, so I’ve promised myself to have my Leica with me where ever I go. The beautiful brown leather case protects very well it and it fits in the pocket of my winter jacket. Perfect.

Quality of the JPG’s seems very good. Here’s a pic from a cafe in the middle of Frankfurt. I haven’t done any editing to this picture except resized it smaller. Click for a larger version.

Another Cafe. I drink my daily double espresso always here. I’ve focused on the painting.

For years I’ve been drooling at the window of the Leica Gallery Frankfurt. It is a very sophisticated camera shop which sells only Leica cameras and holds regular photography exhibitions upstairs. Few days ago, I just had to walk in and asked to see the D-LUX 4. I’m sure you can guess the rest. Within 20 minutes I walked out with a lovely shopping bag from Leica Gallery.

I can highly recommend this shop to any Leica enthusiast. It’s a must see place if you visit Frankfurt. The seem to have just about any Leica available from vintage collectors items to modern Leicas, books, peripherals etc.

InterWhisky

Today started the 10th InterWhisky fair in Frankfurt Intercontinental hotel. Highly recommended for any whiskey lovers visiting Frankfurt this weekend. I’ve visited it in the past few times and enjoyed the whiskeys very much. I think this is a must for tomorrow!

Friday, 21. November 2008: 16.00 – 21.00
Saturday, 22. November 2008: 12.00 – 21.00
Sunday, 23. November 2008: 12.00 – 19.00

It’s that time of the year again - time to think about some cool Christmas presents for your loved ones or for yourself! What are the hottest gadgets for the holiday season 2008? I’ve been drooling over various gadgets, but what is really hot out there right now?

I listed here my top three favorites for this Christmas.

1. Logitech Squeezebox Boom

Squezebox Boom

Squeezebox Boom is an amazing all-in-one network music player. It features a true 802.11g wireless networking, auto-dimming display, 7-day alarm clock with backup power and remote control. Supports most digital music formats and it has a very impressive sound quality. Excellent streaming radio for your bedroom, kitchen etc.

• 1.9-cm (3/4-inch) high-definition, soft-dome tweeters and 7.6-cm (3-inch)
high-power, long-throw woofers
• Bi-amplified design with high-performance signal processor,
class D amplifier and digital crossover
• Stereo XL™ technology widens the sound stage beyond
the physical boundaries of the speaker
• 6-button presets allow one-touch access to favourite radio stations and playlists
• 7-day alarm clock
• Infrared remote control
• Bright, high-contrast VFD display with ambient light sensor and automatic dimming
• Built-in 802.11g wireless with dual internal antennas
• 10/100Base-T Ethernet port
• Line-in via 3.5 mm stereo jack
• Headphone/Subwoofer out via 3.5 mm connector
• Plays MP3, AAC, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, Apple lossless, WMA lossless,
WAV, and AIFF music files
• Connects to your home network to access music stored on your computer via SqueezeCenter or Internet radio, and music services via SqueezeNetwork™

I’d love to have one as an intelligent alarm clock with good quality sound in our bedroom. As it works with the my iTunes library and last.fm I think I really don’t want it - I need it!!

Squeezebox Boom sells in Europe for approx. 280€.

2. Apple iPod Touch

iPod Touch

The new 2nd generation iPod Touch is just fantastic. I bought already one for my wife and now I’m thinking of getting one for myself. Yes it’s a good mp3 player but it’s also a great PDA, nice gadget with the most amazing user interface, cool games, useful applications like dictionaries, e-books, videos etc.

iPhone or iPod? As long as we can not buy iPhones officially unlocked, I won’t be getting one. Well now it really doesn’t matter as the new iPod Touch has basically all the same features (except phone and GPS). Prices are reasonable, I’d go for the 16GB version which seems to be the best bang for the buck at the moment (279€).

Oh, and you can even use it as a remote control for various things, even a Rovio!!!

3. WowWee Rovio

Rovio

This must be the coolest toy for this holiday season. Mobile webcam which can be controlled from any computer from home or even over internet.

In summary, Rovio features:

- Wi-Fi enabled robotic webcam/ led illumination/1 x speaker/1 x built in microphone
- Detects your computer settings for you and guides you though the process
- Interactive audio and video streams from ROVIO to the PC
- Control from web accessible devices
- With stored location points ROVIO can navigate itself around the home

It ships with a charging dock, a beacon (which I think makes it even more hi-tech) that allows it to home in into its own dock for recharging and well “resting”.

There’s also an iPod Touch app in the app-store for controlling rovio over your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Rovio Driver

This thing is serious robotic fun! :)

Happy Holidays 2008!

Sautéed reindeer

Happy New Year 2008!

I really enjoyed last night preparing most traditional Finnish dish, Sautéed reindeer - Poronkäristys, with my mates. We got some freshly frozen reindeer shoulder which we sliced up in thin slices and enjoyed it with lingonberry jam (cowberry preserve) and a lovely and buttery potato mash.

reindeer

Ingredients are:

- frozen reindeer steak, back or shoulder
- butter (250gr)
- coarse sea salt
- black peppercorns
- bay leaves
- granulated onion
- one bottle of beer

Heat up a iron pot, melt the butter, add the meat, beer and spices and let it simmer on mild heat for 2-3 hours. Serve with mashed potatoes and lingonberry jam.

If you ever visit Finnish Lapland, you must try it. Excellent dish.

Best wishes for 2008!

Ahti
