Leica D-LUX 4

Happy New Year 2009!

It’s time to put some pics again to this blog. It seems that I’ve been a good boy last year as Santa brought me a dream come true Christmas present - a Leica D-LUX 4. My first Leica! This might be one of the best compact size cameras out there at the moment. And it is a true Leica! I’ve always wanted to get one, so here we go.

I won’t be going to the technical side of this camera, there are other sites for that. Instead I’ll be posting pics more frequently. It seems I hardly ever bother to carry my DSLR with me, so I’ve promised myself to have my Leica with me where ever I go. The beautiful brown leather case protects very well it and it fits in the pocket of my winter jacket. Perfect.

Quality of the JPG’s seems very good. Here’s a pic from a cafe in the middle of Frankfurt. I haven’t done any editing to this picture except resized it smaller. Click for a larger version.

For years I’ve been drooling at the window of the Leica Gallery Frankfurt. It is a very sophisticated camera shop which sells only Leica cameras and holds regular photography exhibitions upstairs. Few days ago, I just had to walk in and asked to see the D-LUX 4. I’m sure you can guess the rest. Within 20 minutes I walked out with a lovely shopping bag from Leica Gallery.

I can highly recommend this shop to any Leica enthusiast. It’s a must see place if you visit Frankfurt. The seem to have just about any Leica available from vintage collectors items to modern Leicas, books, peripherals etc.

Flying!

My friend took me last Sunday for a flight from Frankfurt to Koblenz for a cup of coffee. We hired a Cessna 172 plane from Egelsbach airport and took it up for a spinn. Beautiful day for some aviation pictures. Here are some photos I took during the flight and from the airports.

I’ve been too busy working lately. However, better update late than never. Highlight of my weekend two weeks ago was, when I wen’t to Oppenheim Flugtag - a nice airshow by river Rhein about 40 minutes drive from Frankfurt. Hot summer day with roaring engines. Here’s some photos I shot from there.

Spinning, spinning, spinning…

Yesterday was a bankholiday, I didn’t know what to do, so I took off to the airport once again to shoot some planes with my camera! Nice weather, lots of people enjoying their holiday on the visitors terrace. Here’s some photos of Boeing 747’s and some other airliners I took.

Noon

Still nice and sunny. Took a walk at the river after lunch and shot a bunch of photos with my new circular polarizer filter. It gives nice effects darkening the sky and removing the reflections of water.

Morning

What a beautiful and sunny morning with clear sky. I grabbed my camera with me and walked slowly to work enjoying the sunshine.

Yesterday was a nice and sunny day. Watching planes go by from my office window, I thought let’s go to the airport and shoot some photographs of planes. I’ve never been photographing planes, but damn it was good fun! Those things move fast, so you got to be quick! At Frankfurt airport there is a nice visitors terrace, which you can enter for a 3€ entrance fee. There’s a good view all around the airport from there. Here are some of the photos I shot there: www.ahti.org/fra

I created this category for motivating me back to photography. As a kid, I used to love taking pictures. My uncle, a professional photographer, tought me how to take pictures with fully manual TLR (twin lense reflex) and SLR (single lense reflex) cameras. For years now, I haven’t been shooting any photos, but now I finally bought a digital SLR (Canon 20D) and I’m trying to get back to this beautiful hobby. I’m looking forward to put some pictures here as a photographic diary of my life.
